TYPESETTINGSG (Singapore)
Sun Yao Yu is a traditional letterpress educator and a founding member of the International Association of Printing Museums. Yao Yu started TYPESETTINGSG in early 2014, what started off as a personal passion project is now an educational setup, aimed at preserving and promoting traditional letterpress printing in Singapore, with a focus on the use of movable type in all printings. The studio conducts various types of educational workshop, letterpress talk, exhibition and renting of studio presses to individuals or communities interested in learning about letterpress and its history. The studio also self-initiated projects to preserve and document the past printing heritage in Singapore, Kickstarter projects and printing culture exchange programs with other countries. Yao Yu is a visual communication trained designer, besides conducting letterpress workshops, talks and exhibitions for the general public, he also designs with his collection of movable types.
