- Alan Marshall spent twenty years working in printing and publishing first in Britain, then in France, writing occasionally for the trade press on various aspects of printing history. In the course of preparing a doctoral thesis on the Lumitype-Photon and the changeover from hot metal to phototypesetting he began working with the Museum of Printing and Graphic Communication in Lyons which he subsequently directed from 2002 until his retirement in 2015. He is chair of the Association of European Printing Museums (AEPM) and vice chair of the International Association of Printing Museums (IAPM). He has written extensively on various aspects of nineteenth and twentieth century printing, graphic communication and graphic heritage.
